Belknap Academic Building

Summary

We participated in a $100 million dollar project for the University of Louisville as a subcontractor on the Belknap Academic Building, as well as Brook Street Park improvements. Our scope included landscaping, irrigation, carpentry, architectural woodwork, site concrete, ornamental railings, doors, frames, hardware, and window treatments. Site work covered clearing, grading, storm sewers, a detention basin, and asphalt. We also performed structural concrete, masonry, steel framing, and metal wall panels. Additional work included acoustical ceilings, flooring, fire protection system installation, and mechanical services for the building and central plant, including plumbing, HVAC, and controls.

Result

The completed building blends cutting-edge technology and design to produce a meaningful yet practical outcome. A section of the historic Crawford Gym wood floor was creatively reused in the stairway seating, honoring legendary alumni basketball players like Charlie Tyra, Wes Unseld, and Darrell Griffith. The first level opens to a dramatic second-level glass and stainless steel balcony. After completion, the university closed Brook Street to create a pedestrian-friendly park, which we completed in a $2 million dollar addition to the project.
